Looking for an event close to home before the fireworks displays on the 4th of July?

The NoMa Business Improvement District and Storey Park will be hosting a July 4th Bash with a live blue grass band, moon bounces, face painting, and more. The free and public event runs from 4 pm – 7 pm at 1005 First Street NE in Storey Park. The NoMa Harris Teeter will also be supporting the event with hot dogs, hamburgers, and watermelon for the first 200 people.

See the NoMa BID website for additional information.

REI Outdoor Classes at Wunder Garten

REI is opening a store in the old Uline Arena in 2016. Ahead of the store opening, they are offering free outdoor classes in bike maintenance, yoga for athletes, knots, and backpacking basics as well as trivia sessions, a run club, and other events. You can see the full schedule and descriptions of classes at http://wundergartendc.com/rei/.

All classes will be held at Wunder Garten, the pop-up beer garden at 150 M Street NE by the NoMa metro. Since the site is a beer garden, you must be 21 to enter or be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

This is a great chance to learn new skills but stick close to the neighborhood!

Another outdoor movie series is set to get you dancing from Trinidad to NoMa, hosted by the NoMa Business Improvement District. Here’s what they have to say:

Get a watermelon and head over to the debut of NoMa Summer Screen on Wednesday, May 27. The 8th year of this popular outdoor movie series kicks-off with Dirty Dancing. In addition, this year’s danciest film series under the stars will be hosted in a new location at NoMa Junction @ Storey Park, a future development site at First and L Streets, NE, that will be transformed for 2015 into NoMa’s best temporary park yet. The new site is asphalt, so we highly recommend you bring low beach chairs or cushions.

The event starts at 7 PM, and films start at dark. DJs, giveaways, as well as the usual food trucks, picnicking, and more start when the doors open. All movies are screened with subtitles.
