this is a first for us — the most ragtag outdoor movie experience of the summer in d.c. is coming on the 3rd friday of the month this summer in june, july, and august. we’re partnering with the ivy city civic association to produce a neighborhood movie night — a true community partnership from spark to screen. join us on 3 select evenings at dusk for feature-length ’80s movies (screening from original, home-recorded vhs) with pre-show “garfield” cartoon specials. you’ll discover displaced youth on june 19th, displaced detective on july 17th, and a displaced bike on august 21st. bring friends, neighbors, and blankets to catch these favorites under the stars in ivy city.

Free Outdoor Summer Movies at Union Market and NoMa

Union Market offers free outdoor movies again this summer. The films are projected onto the front of the building with a speaker system providing the sound. There is ample space to set up chairs or blankets or, for $10, you can park your car in the 6th Street lot for true drive-in style.

Another outdoor movie series is set to get you dancing from Trinidad to NoMa, hosted by the NoMa Business Improvement District. Here’s what they have to say:

Get a watermelon and head over to the debut of NoMa Summer Screen on Wednesday, May 27. The 8th year of this popular outdoor movie series kicks-off with Dirty Dancing. In addition, this year’s danciest film series under the stars will be hosted in a new location at NoMa Junction @ Storey Park, a future development site at First and L Streets, NE, that will be transformed for 2015 into NoMa’s best temporary park yet. The new site is asphalt, so we highly recommend you bring low beach chairs or cushions.

The event starts at 7 PM, and films start at dark. DJs, giveaways, as well as the usual food trucks, picnicking, and more start when the doors open. All movies are screened with subtitles.
