Kids Ride Free on Metrorail and MetroBus

Kids and youth ages 5 to 21 enrolled in a DC Public School or Public Charter School are eligible for $100 in free Metrorail benefits each month. Students (ages 5 to 21) enrolled in private or parochial schools or homeschooled students are not eligible for the Free Rail program. However, the Kids Ride Free on Bus program and the various subsidized pass products (30-day pass, 10-trip rail pass and 10-trip bus pass) are still available to these students as well as pubic school students.

Enrollment for both programs begins on August 17th. There is a 3-step application process for both the MetroBus and MetroRail benefits.

  1. Obtain a DC One Card (dconecard.dc.gov).
  2. Register your DC One Card on line (dconecard.dc.gov/manage).
  3. Sign onto dconecard.dc.gov/manage with an email address and click the “Eligibility” button under “Transit Subsidy Section”.

Please see the DC Department of Transportation site for additional FAQs on the program or call DDOT at (202) 673-1740.

Please share with neighbors who may not be online!
